State of the Union with Candy Crowley

John McCain says that he will not support a tax increase to increase the debt ceiling.  A complete lack of courage!  It's very interesting how a man who was once against the Bush tax cuts has now turned so hard to the right. Seems as though the Tea Party is making all the Republicans crazy.
Education was also discussed.  Geoffrey Canada says the main problem with it is the lack of innovation.  The system has not changed in years.  He says he wants teachers to be leaders.  He wants them to be trained and them have freedom to get the job done however they see fit.   Make it more professional.  With regards to college, he says people need to be prepared for more sophisticated jobs, and low wage jobs are disappearing.  He ends with a discussion of the American dream, saying education is the key solving our problems.  It is an "educational crisis" that needs to be solved.  This seems to be a clear-headed idea.  This would allow teachers to do what worked, even if it was unconventional.
Suze Orman, an expert in financial planning, says that people will not likely be able to retire before 67 or 70.  This is the only way they can survive.  She says the change is because the economy is bad, with the bad housing, stock market, and rising prices of food and gasoline.  Pensions and social security are not reliable, so people have to be responsible for their own retirement.  One way to do this is pay off your mortgage before you retire.  47% say kids will have a better life, while it was 62% in 2009.  Technology is replacing people so productivity is not going down even with a loss of workers.  This is very depressing that Republicans have been so irresponsible with government spending that Social Security and Medicare are even coming into question because of their religious belief that taxes cannot be raised.
