The recent debt-ceiling talks have shown the true colors of the Republican party. The debt ceiling supposedly must be raised by August 2nd or the U.S. could end up sending the markets into a frenzy! Considering that the Republicans are the ones who started two wars, passed a prescription drug bill, passed "education reform", and gave away huge tax cuts for the wealthy all without paying for any of it, it is amazing that voters would ever support such a party again in the near future. But it happened.
Now the Republicans are calling for spending cuts and a drastic change in medicare in order to deal with this giant debt they helped to create. They then REFUSE to raise taxes in order to fix the debt. It is intellectually bankrupt to attempt to tackle the behemoth debt on the backs of the poor by cutting education funding, head start, environmental protections, etc. Apparently in the world of the Republican Party, Bill Gates and Warren Buffet deserve a giant tax cut, while less fortunate Americans, such as those without access to adequate health care or even a home, deserve no help at all. This is an intellectually and morally bankrupt party.
